Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has announced the recipients of the Seventh Annual Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Community Policing. Among those honored is Detective Liz Grant from the Kennewick Police Department.
This award highlights law enforcement officers who show exceptional dedication to building trust, engaging with communities, and enhancing public safety.
Detective Grant was recognized for her ability to connect a series of sexual assaults to one individual. Her investigative work and compassion for victims led to a 226-year prison sentence for the suspect. U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref stated, “Detective Grant’s extraordinary investigative abilities and dedication to supporting victims makes a powerful impact on the Tri-Cities community. Through her skill, compassion, and work ethic, she builds trust with victims and delivers impressive case results in the courtroom.”
Attorney General Garland emphasized the importance of community policing by saying, “Community policing is essential to building trust and ensuring public safety.” He noted that these officers have exceeded their duties by fostering partnerships within their communities.
The award recognizes state, local, and Tribal sworn officers for efforts in criminal investigations, field operations, or innovations in community policing. Recipients were chosen from nominees across the country for their achievements in creating safer communities.
