United States Attorney Delia L. Smith has announced that Jamoi Weekes, a 30-year-old resident of St. Croix, has pleaded guilty to the charge of Influencing Federal Officials by Threats. The plea was entered before Magistrate Judge Emile A. Henderson III, and sentencing is set for March 19, 2025. Weekes could face up to 10 years in prison, with the final sentence being determined by a federal judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors.
Court documents reveal that on August 31, 2024, Weekes attempted to board a flight at Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix but was referred to Customs and Border Protection for secondary inspection. During this process, he became "extremely irate and combative" and issued threats to murder officers if encountered again in the future. Consequently, Weekes was deemed unsuitable for boarding and ordered to leave the airport premises.
Upon exiting, he encountered two Virgin Islands Port Authority officers whom he also threatened with murder. Instead of leaving as instructed, Weekes followed two Customs and Border Protection officers from the terminal to the parking lot while continuing his threats.
The investigation into these incidents was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA). The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Huston.
