Families in Madison, Wisconsin, are mourning after a tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. President Joe Biden expressed his condolences and urged Congress to take action against gun violence.
"We need Congress to act. Now," Biden stated, highlighting the ongoing issue of school shootings across the nation. He emphasized that children should feel safe in their classrooms and not have to prepare for such incidents.
The President mentioned past shootings in Newtown, Uvalde, Parkland, and others that often go unnoticed. "It is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence," he said.
Biden extended prayers for all victims involved, including a teacher and a teenage student who lost their lives. He acknowledged the efforts of first responders and noted that the FBI is assisting local law enforcement. His administration has reached out to offer additional support as needed.
The President highlighted his administration's efforts in combating gun violence, citing significant legislation passed under his leadership and executive actions taken. He also established the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
However, Biden called for further measures from Congress: "Universal background checks. A national red flag law. A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines."
He concluded by stating that senseless violence should never be accepted as it traumatizes children and tears communities apart.
