Biden renominates Anton Hajjar for USPS Board of Governors

President Joe Biden has announced his intention to renominate Anton Hajjar for the position of Governor on the United States Postal Service Board of Governors. Hajjar, who was initially confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn into office on May 28, 2021, is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in labor law.

Hajjar previously served as General Counsel for the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. Since retiring from active practice in 2016, he has focused on pro bono legal work in Washington D.C. and Maryland. His career includes seven years at the National Labor Relations Board and roles in private practice with O’Donnell, Schwartz & Anderson, PC and Murphy Anderson PLLC.

In addition to his legal career, Hajjar has contributed to federal judges' education through articles and presentations on labor issues. He has been involved as an advisor and attorney in numerous employment discrimination cases. In recognition of his contributions, he was elected to the American Law Institute in 2002 and has been part of its governing board since 2010.

The American-Arab Antidiscrimination Committee honored him with a Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award in 2012 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

Hajjar holds a J.D. from Tulane Law School and clerked for Judge John Minor Wisdom at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His diverse work history includes positions as a U.S. Customs Inspector, merchant seaman, factory worker, truck driver, laborer, and hospital attendant.

Residing in Chevy Chase, MD with his wife Sandra Hughes—who consults on aging issues—they have two adopted children from Lebanon named Claire and Gregory, along with one grandchild.
