United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson will step down from his role on January 17, 2025. Frierson has been in the position since May 2022, having been nominated by President Joseph R. Biden on November 15, 2021, and confirmed by the Senate on April 27, 2022. He made history as the first African American to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada.
In his tenure, Frierson led a team of over 100 prosecutors and staff in Las Vegas and Reno. His responsibilities also included participation in the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee’s Subcommittees on Voting Rights and Native American Issues.
Frierson expressed gratitude for his appointment and support from President Biden and Senators Catherine Cortez-Masto and Jacky Rosen: “It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as United States Attorney for the District of Nevada." He emphasized his commitment to integrity, respect, compassion, and excellence while making Nevada safer through initiatives such as removing guns from streets, combating drug trafficking, and reducing violent crime.
Frierson highlighted collaboration with local entities: "I am also grateful to have been able to work alongside local, state, tribal, and federal partners to build effective relationships that advance the cause of doing the right thing."
As he prepares to leave office, Frierson looks forward to continued success within the U.S. Attorney's Office: "I look forward to seeing the continued success and courageous work ahead for the Office.”
