The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that Lenard Ray Bond, 31, from Hartshorne, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison. This will be followed by five years of supervised release for his failure to register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force and the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office. Bond pleaded guilty on May 8, 2024, to an indictment of one count of failure to register as a sex offender.
Bond's initial conviction took place on August 8, 2014, when he was found guilty in the State of Oklahoma for second-degree rape. As a result of this conviction, he was required to register as a sex offender and inform law enforcement about any changes in residency. However, investigators reported that between April 14, 2019, and March 15, 2024, Bond repeatedly failed to comply with this requirement despite moving into various residences within Indian country in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Bond is currently held in custody by the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated facility under the United States Bureau of Prisons where he will serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Wittlinger and Jessica Bove represented the prosecution in this case.
