President Biden has announced the names of nineteen individuals who will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. This award is given to those who have made significant contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the country, as well as world peace and other major public or private endeavors.
In a statement, President Biden expressed his belief that "great leaders keep the faith, give everyone a fair shot, and put decency above all else." He added that these recipients are "great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world."
