On January 20, 2026, the President signed three bills into law aimed at supporting veterans.
H.R. 224, known as the “Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act,” changes section 102(a)(20) of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The new law requires that service-connected disability compensation be excluded when determining if a person qualifies as low or moderate income.
H.R. 1823, called the “VA Budget Shortfall Accountability Act,” mandates a report on certain funding shortfalls in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
H.R. 4446, titled the “Focused Assistance and Skills Training for Veterans’ Employment and Transition Success Act” or the “FAST VETS Act,” outlines conditions under which a veteran’s vocational rehabilitation plan must be redeveloped.
