U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans | U.S. Department of Justice
Eric Rogers, a 33-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The indictment was announced on January 3, 2025, by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. Rogers allegedly possessed the firearm on October 10, 2024, despite being prohibited due to previous felony convictions.
If found guilty, Rogers could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Additionally, he may be required to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the indictment is only an accusation and that guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy focuses on fostering community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell from the Violent Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
