U. S. Attorney Gary M. Restaino | U.S. Department of Justice
The United States Attorney’s Office has released its immigration enforcement statistics for the final quarter of 2024. These figures cover the period from October 1 to December 31 and reflect collaborative efforts with the Tucson and Yuma Sectors of Customs and Border Protection’s U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, and other federal, state, and county agencies.
During this three-month span, Arizona saw criminal charges brought against 3,141 individuals for illegal entry or re-entry into the United States. Additionally, 309 cases were filed against individuals involved in smuggling undocumented noncitizens within the District of Arizona. The period also saw the prosecution of 46 reactive drug cases linked to immigration ports of entry and checkpoints.
The reduction of migrant smuggling remains a priority for the Office and its partners. Efforts target leaders and coordinators of smuggling organizations from Mexico, Colombia, and larger transnational criminal groups. U.S. citizens engaged in these crimes are also prosecuted. Young adult drivers recruited via social media platforms are another focus; prosecutions included two juvenile smugglers during this timeframe.
A commitment to protecting law enforcement officers was underscored by charges brought against two defendants accused of assaulting federal officers.
It is important to note that these statistics pertain only to prosecutions by the United States Attorney’s Office and do not account for individuals processed administratively by immigration enforcement officials.
