In London, the Center for Data Innovation has responded to the release of the UK AI Opportunities Action Plan. Ayesha Bhatti, Head of Digital Policy for the UK & EU at the Center, provided a statement on the matter.
The action plan outlines a strategy for how the UK government intends to utilize artificial intelligence to boost economic growth and enhance its global standing in AI. The plan includes 50 recommendations aimed at fostering an AI-driven economy. According to Bhatti, "By embracing all 50 of the plan’s recommendations, the government demonstrates it is fully committed to delivering an AI-driven economy."
Bhatti noted that there have been past challenges with AI policy in the UK, including an overemphasis on safety concerns and reductions in crucial funding. She described these new recommendations as "a welcome and much-needed shift." She added that if implemented effectively and consistently, these steps could position the UK as a leader in artificial intelligence globally.
