A Mendenhall man has been sentenced to 100 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Koda Tye Williamson, aged 40, was found with a firearm during a search by the Simpson County Sheriff's Department at his home. The search was conducted as part of an investigation into narcotics distribution and illegal firearms possession.
Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. Williamson has prior felony convictions for manslaughter and methamphetamine possession. He pled guilty on July 30, 2024, and will not be eligible for parole due to federal regulations.
The announcement of the sentencing was made by U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The case was investigated by both the ATF and the Simpson County Sheriff's Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen prosecuted the case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. This initiative focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
