UK antitrust officials have initiated an investigation into Google search, marking the first inquiry under a new digital markets regime. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will examine how Google search affects competitors, businesses, and consumers.
Matthew Sinclair, Senior Director and head of CCIA's London office, commented on the investigation: "In its new investigation the CMA should reflect on the existing dynamism in search, with major new competitors in the sector. Search plays a vital economic role for the UK, and the regulator needs to take care to promote the innovation and growth that ministers have rightly asked regulators to prioritise."
The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for Google's operations in the UK as well as for other players in the digital market.
