Spiro resident pleads guilty to possessing an unregistered firearm

Bryant Dewayne Underwood, a 36-year-old resident of Spiro, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to possessing an unregistered firearm. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the plea.

According to the indictment, Underwood was found in possession of a short-barreled rifle on October 26, 2023. The weapon, a 5.56 NATO (.223) caliber rifle, was not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow accepted Underwood's guilty plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered before sentencing takes place. Underwood will remain under custody by the United States Marshals Service until then.
