A Denver man, Flozell Beasley, aged 72, has been found guilty by a federal jury on charges related to multiple robberies in the city. Beasley was convicted of four counts of bank robbery and one count of robbery affecting interstate commerce.

The trial revealed that between May and July 2023, Beasley committed robberies at two banks, two credit unions, and a taco shop in Denver. In each instance, he disguised himself as a construction worker and used a high-quality replica gun to threaten employees before escaping with the stolen money. On July 11, 2023, after robbing Vectra Bank on E 17th Street, he was apprehended shortly after boarding an RTD bus. He was caught with a GPS tracker embedded in the stolen cash along with other incriminating items such as the replica gun and construction gear.

United States Attorney Matt Kirsch commented on the conviction: “Our office remains focused on stopping brazen, serial bank robbers who victimize bank employees.”

FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek remarked on Beasley's criminal history: “This individual is a previously convicted felon who was released from prison and returned to robbing banks -- and a restaurant when his chosen bank was closed.” He credited cooperation with local agencies for Beasley's capture: “This is the kind of defendant that gets the attention of the FBI Denver Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, and with help from partners like the Denver Police Department and the Regional Transportation District, we tracked him down and ended his criminal activity in the community.”

The case was overseen by United States District Court Judge Regina M. Rodriguez. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Denver Field Office while prosecution duties were handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Brian Dunn and Garreth Winstead.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration among law enforcement agencies. Launched on May 26, 2021, this strategy emphasizes building trust within communities and prioritizing strategic enforcement efforts.
