Federal indictment filed against seven for drugs and double homicide

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced a 16-count federal indictment against seven individuals linked to drug dealing and an armed robbery spree that resulted in a double homicide on April 10 and 11, 2024. The charges, outlined in the third superseding indictment, cover offenses spanning four years.

The defendants face various charges, including drug conspiracy, Hobbs Act robbery, brandishing firearms during robberies, carjacking causing death, kidnapping causing death, arson, and possession of firearms by convicted felons. Among those charged are Jordanish Torres Garcia, Giovany Crespo Hernandez, Monicsabel Romero Soto, Sonic Torres, Dereck Rodriguez Bonilla, Anneliz Colon De Jesus, and Cesar Silva Fernandez.

Previously charged with carjacking resulting in death and related crimes were Torres Garcia, Crespo Hernandez, and Rodriguez Bonilla. These charges now consolidate into a single trial encompassing years of criminal activity culminating in the events of April 2024.

"An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law," stated the announcement. "Every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty."

On January 15, 2025, Kevin Ocasio Justiniano pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the carjacking killing on April 11, 2024. His plea included admitting to carjacking resulting in death and conspiring to distribute controlled substances between May and August 2022. Ocasio Justiniano faces life imprisonment.

Ocasio Justiniano's plea agreement revealed his involvement in distributing fentanyl and cocaine from May through August 23, 2022. He also participated with Torres Garcia in an armed home invasion robbery before planning the fatal carjacking on April 11.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local sheriff's offices. Assistant United States Attorneys Dana Hill and Michael Felicetta will prosecute the case.
