U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas have seized cocaine valued at $987,872. The narcotics were found hidden within a tractor attempting to enter the United States from Mexico.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry stated, "Our CBP officers continue to exercise resolute vigilance and their training, experience and use of high-tech tools and resources led to the discovery of this load of cocaine."
The interception occurred on January 14 when CBP officers inspected a tractor at the Pharr International Bridge. Utilizing canines and non-intrusive inspection equipment, officers discovered 30 packages of alleged cocaine weighing nearly 74 pounds (33.56 kg) concealed within the vehicle.
Following the discovery, CBP's Office of Field Operations seized both the narcotics and the tractor. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
