Boston man receives prison sentence for firearm offenses

Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts

A Boston man has been sentenced for his involvement in a firearm trafficking and straw purchasing conspiracy. Gustavo Rodriguez, 22, received a sentence of one year and one day in prison from U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin. Following his prison term, Rodriguez will undergo three years of supervised release.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty in November 2023 to charges of conspiracy to make false statements in records required by a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) and aiding and abetting the making of such false statements. The charges were initially brought against him on January 17, 2023, alongside Cory Daigle and Shakim Grant. A federal grand jury later indicted him on March 16, 2023.

The case involved activities between August 2022 and November 2022 where Rodriguez and Daigle worked together to falsify entries in records that Daigle was required to maintain as an FFL holder. This was done to hide the illegal sale of firearms through Grant to Rodriguez, who was not legally allowed to purchase or possess firearms. To conceal Rodriguez's identity as the true purchaser, Grant and Daigle made false representations on necessary forms.

Both Daigle and Grant have admitted guilt regarding their parts in the conspiracy. On January 10, 2025, Daigle received a two-year prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release. Earlier, on October 18, 2024, Grant was sentenced to three years of probation.

The announcement came from United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy; James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives' Boston Field Division; and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox. The Revere Police Department provided valuable assistance during the investigation with Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm prosecuting the case.
