Dawn N. Ison, U.S. Attorney | Department Of Justice Eastern District Of Michigan

The United States Attorney's Office in Detroit reported significant achievements in 2024, focusing on rebuilding community trust, enhancing civil rights protection, and addressing violent crime. United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison highlighted these efforts in a 62-page annual report.

"Our office is immensely proud of the work we did in 2024," said Ison. She emphasized the importance of partnerships across the Eastern District of Michigan and praised the dedicated team of lawyers and support staff for their contributions.

The report outlines various accomplishments by the office's teams in Detroit, Flint, and Bay City. In fiscal year 2024, $45,395,510.25 was collected through criminal and civil actions. Of this total, $32,629,919.83 came from criminal actions while $12,765,590.42 was from civil actions.

Efforts to target violent offenders resulted in federal convictions for members of criminal gangs such as the Seven Mile Bloods Gang and Almighty Vice Lords Nation. Sentences included life imprisonment for one gang leader and lengthy terms for others involved.

A landmark settlement with Wayne County Jail addressed allegations regarding inadequate services for inmates with disabilities. Additionally, a guilty plea was secured from a former Chief Financial Officer who embezzled over $40 million from the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.

The office continued its focus on public corruption cases with notable outcomes involving local mayors facing bribery charges. Moreover, five Chinese nationals were charged after photographing military equipment during a joint training exercise at Camp Grayling.

Other key cases included securing a 33-year sentence related to a domestic violence incident on the Isabella Reservation and convicting seven individuals under the FACE Act for obstructing access to a reproductive health clinic.

While acknowledging progress made in 2024, Ison stated that more work remains to be done to ensure community safety and protect civil rights.
