The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the end of a pause on liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, following guidance from President Donald J. Trump to promote "American Energy Dominance." The Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management will now resume evaluating pending applications for LNG exports to countries without free trade agreements with the United States, as mandated by the Natural Gas Act.

In December, the Department released an extensive analysis of various issues related to LNG exports and initially set February 18, 2025, as the deadline for public comments. To ensure thorough input from stakeholders, this period has been extended to March 20, 2025.

Acting DOE Secretary Ingrid Kolb has instructed the FECM to return to standard procedures while also coordinating with the multi-agency NEPA review process. This dual approach aims to enhance efficiency in regulatory practices.
