Erik S. Siebert has been appointed as the Interim United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA). He was sworn in today in Alexandria, Virginia.
In his new role, Siebert will oversee the prosecution of federal crimes and manage civil litigation matters where the United States has an interest within EDVA. His responsibilities include leading a team of approximately 300 staff members across four divisions located in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk, and Newport News. The district covers a population exceeding six million residents.
Siebert's career with EDVA began in 2010 when he joined as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. During his tenure, he has handled cases involving violent crime, drug trafficking both internationally and domestically, firearms offenses, fraud, child sexual exploitation, illegal immigration, and public corruption. He also served as the Lead Task Force Attorney for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) for EDVA. From 2019 to 2024, he held the position of Deputy Criminal Supervisor for the Richmond Division.
His work has earned him several accolades including the 2018 OCDETF Mid-Atlantic Region Case of the Year Award and the 2024 Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Award for “Outstanding Community Impact Investigation.”
Before joining the Department of Justice, Siebert worked as a police officer with Washington D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department from 2002 to 2006. He later served as a law clerk for Judge Henry E. Hudson at the United States District Court for EDVA from 2009 to 2010.
Siebert holds a J.D., graduating cum laude from University of Richmond Law School in 2009 and received his B.A., with distinction from Virginia Military Institute in 2001.
