Fort Myers man sentenced for illegal firearm possession

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Stephon Jamal Dale, a 38-year-old resident of Fort Myers, to two years in federal prison. The sentencing follows Dale's guilty plea on June 11, 2024, for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

Court documents reveal that on July 5, 2022, Dale sold a loaded Taurus revolver for $400. As a convicted felon, federal law prohibits him from possessing firearms and ammunition.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that collaborates with various levels of law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, to enhance PSN by focusing on fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
