The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that President Donald J. Trump has appointed Mark T. Uyeda as the Acting Chairman of the agency. Uyeda expressed his honor in serving this role, stating, "I am honored to serve in this capacity after serving as a Commissioner since 2022, and a member of the staff since 2006." He emphasized the importance of the SEC's mission in protecting investors and maintaining fair markets.
Uyeda was first sworn in as a Commissioner on June 30, 2022, following confirmation by the U.S. Senate. He was re-nominated and confirmed for a term ending in 2028. During Trump's first term, Uyeda worked with senior leadership at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Secretary Eugene Scalia at the U.S. Department of Labor. His experience also includes roles within the SEC as Senior Advisor to Chairman Jay Clayton and other positions.
Before joining the SEC, Uyeda served as Chief Advisor to California's Corporations Commissioner under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. His earlier career included work as a corporate attorney at law firms Kirkpatrick & Lockhart and O’Melveny & Myers.
Originally from Orange County, California, Uyeda holds a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from Duke University. He is recognized for his contributions to legal communities, including receiving the Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
