Dillon man sentenced for drug trafficking offenses

A Dillon resident has been sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl. Jason Louie Tong, 50, admitted to the charges of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. The sentence includes five years of supervised release following imprisonment.

U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the case, where it was revealed that Tong made multiple trips to Washington in 2023 to acquire drugs for distribution in southwest Montana. According to court documents, he brought back significant quantities of meth and fentanyl on each trip.

The investigation into Tong's activities was conducted by several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Homeland Security Investigations; Drug Enforcement Administration; Montana Division of Criminal Investigation; Montana Highway Patrol; Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office; Butte Silver Bow Law Enforcement; and Idaho State Police.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, the program focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
