Susan T. Lehr, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska
United States Attorney Susan Lehr has announced the sentencing of Jovan Travis, a 38-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. Travis was sentenced on January 23, 2025, in federal court for one count of felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down a sentence of 92 months' imprisonment to Travis. Following his release from prison, he will serve a two-year term of supervised release. In the federal system, there is no provision for parole.
The case against Travis began on January 12, 2023, when an officer from the Omaha Police Department was informed by a Confidential Informant about illegal narcotics sales involving Travis. The informant arranged a controlled purchase of pills from him. During the transaction, however, Travis informed the informant that he did not have the pills and instead offered to sell a handgun for $300. The informant purchased the weapon using task force money. It was later discovered that the handgun had been reported stolen from Illinois.
Travis has prior convictions for multiple crimes punishable by imprisonment for terms exceeding one year. The Omaha Police Department conducted the investigation into this case.
