Susan T. Lehr, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska

United States Attorney Susan Lehr has announced the sentencing of Joseph Goeken, a 40-year-old resident of Omaha, Nebraska. On January 22, 2025, Goeken was sentenced in federal court for distributing methamphetamine. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher handed down a sentence of 190 months in prison with no parole option available in the federal system. Following his release, Goeken will serve a five-year term under supervised release.

The case against Goeken began on March 11, 2024, when an undercover agent from the Drug Enforcement Agency purchased approximately one pound of methamphetamine from him in Omaha. Subsequent testing by a crime laboratory confirmed that the meth weighed 443 grams and had a purity level of at least 91 percent. Prior to this transaction, Goeken sold two ounces of meth to the undercover agent on March 5, 2024, and another pound on April 4, 2024.

On April 8, 2024, as DEA agents prepared to execute a search warrant at Goeken's apartment in Omaha, an incident occurred involving a Nebraska State Patrol trooper attempting to conduct a traffic stop. During this event, Goeken fled at high speed and abandoned his vehicle shortly after. Officers discovered about 116 grams of meth (including packaging) along with a digital scale inside a bag found in the vehicle. A subsequent search of his apartment led agents to find approximately 59 grams of meth (also including packaging).

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
