Wyatt Swan, a 48-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed for the killing of his wife, Teresa Francisco. The incident occurred in Northeast Washington in 2024. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the plea.
The sentencing is set for March 21, 2025, by Judge Jason Park of the D.C. Superior Court.
According to evidence presented by the government, on March 1, 2024, at around 1:00 p.m., Swan shot his wife in their apartment located in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue, Northeast. After she attempted to escape and hid in a nearby work van, he followed her and fired multiple shots into the vehicle, resulting in her death. Swan then fled from law enforcement authorities.
Swan was apprehended on October 2, 2024, with assistance from the Prince George's County Police Department and has been held in custody since his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Edward Martin Jr. and Chief Smith acknowledged the efforts of those involved in investigating this case from the Metropolitan Police Department and thanked the Prince George's County Police Department for their support. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans led the investigation and prosecution.
