Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma
Today, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S. District Judge Sara E. Hill sentenced Jeannie Rene Romero to 60 months in prison for child abuse and neglect. Following her sentence, she will undergo five years of supervised release.
In October 2022, while caring for her three-week-old baby, Jeannie Romero used excessive force during a diaper change, resulting in the baby's femur being broken. She did not seek medical help for over 48 hours. Medical professionals discovered additional injuries that suggested abuse.
Previously, in June, Judge Hill sentenced Jacob Alejandro Romero to 24 months imprisonment with five years of supervised release for child neglect. Although he was at work during the incident, he noticed the injury but failed to get assistance.
The children involved were removed from their home and placed with family members. Both Jeannie and the baby are citizens of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
Jeannie will remain in custody until transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Jacob was released on bond before being taken into custody after his sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and Sapulpa Police Department with Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie N. Ihler handling prosecution.
