Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently engaged in a conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The discussion, as shared by Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, centered on several key regional issues.
During the call, Secretary Rubio expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for Qatar's mediation efforts aimed at securing the release of hostages from Gaza. He also acknowledged Qatar's ongoing security partnership. "The Secretary thanked the Prime Minister for his mediation efforts to secure the release of hostages from Gaza, and for Qatar’s security partnership," Bruce stated.
Rubio emphasized the necessity of holding Hamas accountable and ensuring that all remaining hostages are released. He highlighted the importance of advancing discussions on post-conflict planning concerning governance and security in Gaza. In addition to these points, Secretary Rubio conveyed appreciation for Qatar's role in facilitating the recent release of two Americans who were unlawfully detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan. "He expressed appreciation for Qatar’s facilitation in securing the recent release of two unlawfully detained Americans held by the Taliban in Afghanistan," said Bruce.
The Secretary concluded by expressing his interest in collaborating with Prime Minister Al Thani on matters related to regional peace and security while exploring opportunities during this period of significant change.
