TechNet, a bipartisan network of innovation economy leaders, has released findings from a recent poll conducted with Ipsos. The study focused on the impact of e-commerce marketplaces on small businesses and their interactions with customers. The results highlight the role these platforms play in helping small businesses thrive.
According to TechNet’s Executive Vice President, Carl Holshouser, the survey reveals that most e-commerce retailers use multiple sales channels to reach customers. "90% of those selling online do so on at least two e-commerce marketplaces," he noted.
The survey indicates that 90% of respondents view e-commerce marketplaces as a cost-effective method for online sales. Additionally, 85% believe these platforms help reduce overall business expenses. Furthermore, 92% agree that e-commerce marketplaces facilitate easier access to potential customers.
The poll also found that 90% of participants value the analytics tools provided by e-commerce platforms for launching new product lines. Moreover, 79% believe that online sales have opened opportunities for getting products into physical stores.
Conducted between October 23 and November 5, 2024, the survey involved a sample of 1,003 small business retailers. Participants included owners and senior managers from companies with fewer than 100 employees and less than $50 million in revenue last year. Interviews were conducted online without post-hoc data weighting.
