FTC issues refunds over Fashion Nova review practices

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is distributing nearly $2.4 million in refunds to consumers who purchased products from Fashion Nova, a fast fashion retailer accused of deceptive review practices. The FTC alleged that Fashion Nova blocked negative reviews on its website, misrepresenting that all customer feedback was displayed when only reviews with ratings of four stars or higher were shown.

In January 2022, the FTC initiated its first case addressing the concealment of negative customer reviews. Fashion Nova settled the allegations by agreeing not to suppress customer reviews and paying compensation to affected consumers.

Refunds are being sent to 148,351 customers who filed valid claims, with payments issued via checks or PayPal as chosen by the recipients. Consumers must cash their checks within 90 days or redeem PayPal payments within 30 days. For questions regarding payments, recipients can contact JND Legal Administration at 855-678-0018 or visit the FTC's website for more information about the refund process.

The FTC emphasizes that it never requires payment or personal account information for issuing refunds. Its interactive dashboards offer a state-by-state breakdown of refunds in various cases. In 2023 alone, FTC actions resulted in $330 million returned to consumers nationwide.

The Federal Trade Commission is committed to promoting competition and protecting consumer rights through education and enforcement actions. The agency advises against sending money based on threats or promises of prizes and encourages reporting scams and fraud online at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
