Dorchester men charged as felons after firearm seizure

Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts

Two Dorchester men have been charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition following a federal search in Dorchester. Rickey Simmons, 46, and Robert Campbell, 35, face charges for being felons in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The charging documents indicate that two loaded firearms were allegedly found in the living area occupied by Simmons. Campbell was reportedly found with a key to a safe containing thousands of dollars and a loaded Glock firearm. Additionally, his room contained a small amount of suspected cocaine. Outside his bedroom, authorities discovered a bag with three more Glock firearms, including one equipped with a machine gun conversion device capable of firing automatically. A loaded extended magazine fitting the converted weapon was also recovered. Court records show Campbell has prior convictions for assaulting police officers and resisting arrest.

If convicted on the charge of being felons in possession of firearms, the defendants could face up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and James M. Ferguson from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives announced the charges. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark Grady and Allegra Flamm are prosecuting the case.

The allegations remain unproven until guilt is established beyond reasonable doubt in court.
