A leader of a drug trafficking organization in Massachusetts has pleaded guilty to multiple federal drug charges. Giovanni Pina, 27, from Brockton, admitted to possessing with intent to distribute and distributing over 500 grams of methamphetamine, distributing methamphetamine where a minor was present, and conspiracy to distribute significant quantities of fentanyl, its analogue, and cocaine.
U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young has scheduled Pina's sentencing for April 30, 2025. He was initially charged in February 2023 and indicted by a grand jury the following month.
Pina's involvement in the drug trafficking operation dates back to January 2021 through November 2021. The organization distributed drugs across the South Shore area including Brockton, Quincy, and Weymouth. Authorities discovered a "stash house" in Weymouth containing drugs and firearms during a search in January 2021.
In early 2023, Pina engaged in recorded drug transactions with a cooperating witness. On January 12th at a residence in Brockton and on January 25th in Taunton, he exchanged large quantities of methamphetamine for cash.
The conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years up to life imprisonment. Other charges also include potential sentences ranging from ten years to life imprisonment with additional fines.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley announced the plea along with Jodi Cohen from the FBI Boston Division and Quincy Police Chief Mark Kennedy. Various law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin R. O’Donnell.
