Convicted felon pleads guilty to gun charge after video call incident

A convicted felon in St. Louis has pleaded guilty to a gun charge after being caught on video with firearms during a call to an inmate. Bruce Donta Robinson, 28, was seen in June 2024 with what appeared to be two semi-automatic weapons while contacting an inmate at a Pulaski County, Illinois detention facility. As a convicted felon, Robinson is prohibited from possessing firearms and was on supervised release for a previous gun crime.

Following the review of the video call, the FBI obtained a search warrant for Robinson's residence in St. Louis County. The search led to the discovery of several firearms: a loaded Polymer 80 semi-automatic pistol without a serial number and a large capacity magazine, a loaded Glock .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol with a laser attachment, and a stolen Rock River Arms AR-15 pistol with a large capacity magazine.

Robinson has admitted guilt to one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. This offense carries the possibility of up to 15 years imprisonment.

The FBI conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Christian Goeke is handling the prosecution.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which unites various levels of law enforcement with communities to combat violent crime and gun violence, aiming to enhance neighborhood safety. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, strengthening PSN through principles such as fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
