Burlington man receives 20-year sentence for meth conspiracy involvement

A Burlington man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Giovani Denario Timmons, aged 24, was implicated in the distribution network operating in Burlington from December 2019 to November 2021. According to court documents, Timmons acted as a source of supply alongside Kendric Centrall Childs, aged 25.

Timmons played a role in transporting methamphetamine to Iowa, including an incident where approximately 362 pounds of methamphetamine were seized during a traffic stop in Arizona in January 2020. This seizure marked the largest single capture of ice methamphetamine by the Arizona Department of Public Safety at that time.

Following his imprisonment, Timmons will serve a five-year term of supervised release. It is important to note that there is no parole available within the federal system.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal from the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Burlington Police Department, Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce, and several other local and federal law enforcement bodies.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
