William S. Thompson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia
Anthony Darnell Deberry, a 40-year-old resident of Beckley, has been sentenced to five years and ten months in prison for distributing fentanyl. Following his prison term, he will be subject to three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on May 3, 2023, Deberry sold fentanyl to a confidential informant at his home in Beckley. He confessed to this transaction and acknowledged selling fentanyl on four additional occasions within Raleigh County.
A search warrant executed by law enforcement officers at Deberry's residence on July 5, 2023, uncovered two 9mm handguns, ammunition, $2,000 in cash, and approximately 76.5 grams of fentanyl. Deberry admitted his intention to distribute the seized fentanyl.
Deberry's criminal record includes three prior drug offense convictions and one conviction for unlawful possession of weapons.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing and praised the efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit comprises officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff's Department, and Beckley Police Department.
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk delivered the sentence while Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess handled the prosecution.
