Acting U.S. Attorney Tina L. Nommay announced that the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana collected $5,219,650 in criminal and civil actions during Fiscal Year 2024. Of this total, $2,667,519 was gathered from criminal actions while $2,552,131 came from civil actions.

U.S. Attorneys’ Offices are tasked with enforcing and collecting both civil and criminal debts owed to the United States as well as debts owed to federal crime victims. According to law, defendants must pay restitution to victims of certain federal crimes who have experienced physical injury or financial loss. Restitution is directed to victims while criminal fines and felony assessments contribute to the department’s Crime Victims Fund for distribution among victim compensation and assistance programs at both federal and state levels.

Additionally, the Northern District of Indiana collected $855,895 through asset forfeiture actions in FY 2024. The forfeited assets deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund are utilized for restoring funds to crime victims and supporting various law enforcement purposes.
