A man from Ivanhoe, Virginia, has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Troy Alexander Stamper III, aged 34, admitted guilt in October 2024 to charges of intending to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon.
Court documents reveal that on June 23, 2023, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in Fries, Virginia, in search of a wanted individual. Upon arrival, a witness reported that both the wanted individual and Stamper fled when deputies approached. The witness also noted Stamper had a pistol.
The wanted person was discovered hiding beneath the residence and informed deputies that Stamper had hidden a duffel bag and pistol under the porch. Deputies recovered the duffel bag containing a loaded semiautomatic 9 mm pistol, 87 grams of methamphetamine, .873 grams of fentanyl, and four oxycodone tablets.
Stamper was captured shortly thereafter and confessed ownership of both the pistol and the bag with drugs.
