On Friday, Representative Chip Roy reintroduced the Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act. This bill aims to codify the Foreign Terror Organization (FTO) declaration of Mexican cartels, initially declared by President Trump.
Greg Sindelar, CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), expressed support for this legislative move. He stated, "It is all too easy for one president to the next to completely dismantle our national security efforts." Sindelar praised Congress members who are working to solidify Trump's executive orders on border security and community protection. He emphasized that with such legislation, future presidents would find it challenging to reverse these actions.
Joshua Treviño, Chief Transformation Officer at TPPF, highlighted the significance of the FTO designation for Mexican cartels. He said, "The enhanced and expanded powers afforded by a Foreign-Terror Organization designation for Mexican cartels are essential to their defeat." Treviño asserted that this designation is justified due to the violence perpetuated by cartels in American communities. He added that President Trump fulfilled his commitment and urged the federal government to follow suit. According to Treviño, this action serves as a warning not only to Mexico's cartels but also to their allies within Mexico's government.
