Rock Island man sentenced for firearm possession following high-speed chase

A Rock Island man has been sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for a gun-related charge. Adrian Warren Neeley, 38, received a sentence of 151 months on January 30, 2025, for possessing a firearm as a felon.

Court documents and evidence presented at the sentencing revealed that Neeley led police officers on a high-speed chase from Rock Island, Illinois, into Iowa on October 9, 2022. The chase began after reports of reckless driving and gunfire were received by officers in Rock Island. Officers observed muzzle flashes near Neeley's vehicle and noted his failure to comply with traffic signals while speeding at over 80 miles per hour in a zone limited to 30 miles per hour. His vehicle eventually became disabled, prompting him to flee on foot. During the pursuit, he dropped a firearm which was later recovered upon his apprehension.

Further investigation linked cartridge casings and bullets found at an August shooting near the Moline Police Department to the gun dropped by Neeley during his escape attempt. At sentencing, it was determined that Neeley had fired shots at his significant other from a vehicle on August 21, 2022. His criminal history includes prior felony convictions such as a conviction in 2008 for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Following his imprisonment term, Neeley will serve three years under supervised release; federal parole is not applicable.

The announcement came from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The case involved investigative efforts by several law enforcement agencies including the Davenport Police Department, Rock Island Police Department, Moline Police Department, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
