On February 4, 2025, Lee Zeldin, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), introduced the "Powering the Great American Comeback" initiative. This plan aims to align with President Trump's administration goals and focuses on revitalizing the American economy while maintaining environmental standards.

The initiative is structured around five main pillars. The first pillar emphasizes providing clean air, land, and water for all Americans. Zeldin stated, “Every American should have access to clean air, land, and water. I will ensure the EPA is fulfilling its mission to protect human health and the environment."

The second pillar focuses on restoring American energy dominance. Zeldin explained that achieving energy independence would reduce costs for Americans and decrease reliance on foreign energy sources. He remarked, “Pursuing energy independence and energy dominance will cut energy costs for everyday Americans who are simply trying to heat their homes and put gas in their cars."

Permitting reform is addressed in the third pillar. It aims to simplify processes for businesses wanting to invest in America by reducing lengthy permitting procedures. According to Zeldin, “Any business that wants to invest in America should be able to do so without having to face years-long, uncertain, and costly permitting processes."

The fourth pillar seeks to position the United States as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is for AI development and investment within the U.S., supported by clean energy solutions. Zeldin expressed confidence under President Trump's leadership: “As we rapidly advance into this new age of AI, it is important that the United States lead the world in this field."

Lastly, protecting and reviving American auto jobs forms the fifth pillar of this initiative. The plan involves supporting domestic manufacturing through streamlined regulations aimed at revitalizing the auto industry. Zeldin noted: “Our American auto industry is hurting because of the burdensome policies of the past."
