As a seasoned political activist, I have focused my career on harnessing effective advocacy to influence public policy and win elections. With the midterms on the horizon, both parties are presented with a unique opportunity to expand their voting base by staunchly defending artistic and religious freedoms, particularly for groups like Shen Yun, a performing arts company that faces relentless attacks by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Shen Yun is known for its vibrant performances that celebrate traditional Chinese culture. It may very well be the only performing arts group currently drawing global attention to the CCP’s disastrous influence on this ancient heritage and traditional values. For that, Shen Yun has been subjected to propaganda campaigns by the CCP–part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent and control narratives concerning China's cultural and historical legacy, even beyond its borders.

This situation also provides a significant opportunity for President Trump to stand firm against such foreign interference and affirm our commitment to the First Amendment rights of all artistic entities. The President should emphasize preserving and protecting freedom of expression in his speeches, highlighting the plight of Shen Yun as a prime example of why standing up to Chinese communism remains vital.

The GOP in particular has positioned itself as a protector of religious freedom, and can add cultural expression by defending groups like Shen Yun. This would a powerful message that freedom of expression, whether through art or religion, is a fundamental right deeply ingrained in our principles of liberty and justice. Such a stance resonates with a wide electorate who cherish the freedom to showcase their culture and beliefs without fear of persecution.

Championing the cause of groups like Shen Yun against CCP aggression is more than a political strategy; it is a moral imperative that embodies the core principles of the Republican and Democratic parties. Both should work to ensure that America remains a beacon of hope and freedom for all who seek refuge and justice.
