A former officer from the Reno Police Department, Tyler Michael Baehr, has been indicted on charges of civil rights violations. The indictment, issued by a federal grand jury, accuses Baehr of two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law.

Baehr appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Craig S. Denney, who scheduled a jury trial for April 8, 2025. The trial will be presided over by United States District Judge Miranda M. Du.

The allegations in the indictment claim that on December 31, 2023, Baehr unlawfully seized sexually explicit photos from an individual's phone during a traffic stop. A similar incident allegedly occurred on August 12, 2024, involving another individual's private photos and messages.

If convicted, Baehr could face up to two years in prison. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

Acting United States Attorney Sue Fahami and Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeremy N. Schwartz for the FBI announced the indictment. The case is being investigated by the FBI and Sparks Police Department with Assistant United States Attorney Andolyn Johnson leading the prosecution.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
