Postal worker indicted for alleged mail theft in New Orleans

Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the indictment of Kanisha Florence, a 28-year-old resident of New Orleans, for mail theft by a postal employee. The indictment was issued on February 6, 2025, and charges Florence with violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 1709.

The allegations state that on February 6, 2023, Florence removed a gift card from mail she accessed while working for the United States Postal Service.

If found guilty, Florence could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that "the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
