A Connecticut man has admitted guilt in a U.S. District Court in Bangor for possessing ammunition as a felon. Yardley Davis, 39, was involved in an incident dating back to December 2021 when a Penobscot County Sheriff's Office deputy noticed mismatched license plates on a vehicle during routine patrol in Greenbush.
The deputy stopped the vehicle after it began moving, and the driver was arrested for operating with a suspended license. The driver informed authorities that Davis, who was a passenger, fled upon being pulled over. It was alleged that Davis had two guns and expressed concern about going to jail if caught with them.
The following day, law enforcement received information from a homeowner about suspicious items found near their property, including gloves, a black ski mask, and rope. A search led to the discovery of Davis in the woods suffering from hypothermia; he was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Further investigation by a K9 unit uncovered two 9mm handguns and 45 rounds of ammunition in the woods. Forensic analysis conducted by the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory confirmed Davis's DNA on both firearms. Due to a prior conviction for first-degree robbery in Connecticut Superior Court in 2005, Davis is prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition.
Davis could face up to ten years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 followed by up to three years of supervised release. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with support from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police.
