Sioux Falls man receives 15-year sentence for child pornography production

Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota

A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for the production of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange delivered the sentence on February 7, 2025, following a guilty plea from Len Homelvig, age 55.

Homelvig was initially indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2024 on three counts of production of child pornography. He later entered into a plea agreement with the United States, pleading guilty to one count on October 25, 2024. In addition to his prison term, Homelvig received five years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund along with $8,000 in restitution. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation began in December 2023 when explicit photographs were discovered on Homelvig’s phone. These images and videos involved female foster children residing in his home. It was revealed that Homelvig used his phone to capture these images by sliding it under bathroom doors or over shower curtains while the minors were undressed. The investigation uncovered that five females were victimized, four of whom were minors.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project involves federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.

The investigation was conducted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Ebert-Webb prosecuted the case.

Following sentencing, Homelvig was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
