Ryan M. Newman, a 33-year-old resident of Corning, NY, has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the plea before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca in Rochester, New York. As a convicted sex offender at the time of these crimes, Newman faces a minimum sentence of 25 years and could receive up to 50 years in prison along with a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi is handling the case and provided background on Newman's criminal history. In 2012, Newman was convicted of child pornography offenses by New York State and sentenced to jail followed by ten years of probation. He was also required to register as a Level 3 Sex Offender due to being considered high risk for re-offending.
The investigation began in January 2021 when Snapchat reported an uploaded video containing child pornography to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip led the New York State Police to execute a search warrant on Newman’s residence in 2022, revealing his involvement in uploading such content and possessing further illegal material on electronic devices.
In April 2024, another tip received by FBI Corning indicated that child pornography involving a local victim had been distributed to an undercover agent in Illinois. Further investigation uncovered that Newman had sexually abused the child and produced pornographic content involving them.
Newman was apprehended by the FBI and Corning Police following this discovery and is facing additional charges in Steuben County Court.
This plea results from collaborative efforts between several agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Corning Office under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia's direction and the Corning Police Department led by Chief Kenzie Spaulding.
Sentencing is set for June 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., presided over by Judge Vacca.
