Orlando man sentenced for possessing machinegun; part of Project Safe Neighborhoods

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. has sentenced 19-year-old Jeremiah Cundiff of Orlando to one year and six months in federal prison for possessing a machinegun. Cundiff entered a guilty plea on October 31, 2024.

Court documents reveal that law enforcement apprehended Cundiff on October 23, 2023, due to an active warrant for his arrest. During the arrest attempt, Cundiff fled and made a stealthy movement, leading officers to discover a loaded firearm equipped with a machinegun conversion device at the location where he had moved. The presence of Cundiff's DNA on the firearm was confirmed.

The machinegun conversion device involved is commonly known as a "switch," which converts a semiautomatic pistol into a machinegun by allowing it to fire multiple shots with a single trigger pull.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Dorman prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that unites law enforcement agencies and communities to combat violent crime and gun violence while enhancing neighborhood safety. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy aimed at reducing violent crime through PSN by building trust within communities, supporting community-based violence prevention organizations, establishing focused enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes effectively.
