A former student doctor, Kevin Weiss, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the production and possession of child sexual abuse material. According to court documents, Weiss, aged 28, admitted to creating an image involving a minor under the age of 18 through coercion or persuasion. Additionally, he confessed to possessing other explicit materials depicting very young children.
Weiss faces a potential sentence ranging from a minimum of 15 years to a maximum of 50 years in prison. Following his incarceration, he will be subject to supervised release for at least five years and potentially for life.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Jason T. Stevens, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with support from the Albuquerque Police Department and New Mexico State Police. Assistant United States Attorneys Jaymie L. Roybal and Meg Tomlinson are handling the prosecution.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to apprehend offenders who exploit children online and assist victims.
