Luis Alberto Sanchez-Espinoza, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund. The sentencing follows his guilty plea to charges of distributing cocaine and illegal re-entry into the United States, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.
Sanchez-Espinoza will also face three years of supervised release after serving his prison term. The case documents reveal that on June 5, 2023, law enforcement officials conducted a traffic stop on I-94 and discovered cocaine in Sanchez-Espinoza's vehicle. He had previously been deported from the United States multiple times, with the most recent removal occurring on March 23, 2022, following the completion of a prison sentence for methamphetamine distribution in the Western District of Virginia.
The investigation was carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Toth prosecuted the case.
